A Gentle Exchange

An amazing thing happens on the road. A sort of compression, pushing out all unnecessary information. Music, and touring especially, is an economy of kindness. You put miles beneath your feet and show up someplace where either an old friend or a new one has worked hard so that you can play your music and have people there to hear it. Then later in the evening, that same person or another offers you a spare bed, a couch, or a little bit floor, all for the most gentle exchange. You offer your company, your music, and a story from down the road, and for that you are taken care of. It’s a good reminder: Your company, your sincerity, your stories are all you need to be deserving of care, and so many of us are willing and able to care. I have never felt so at ease in as I did while I was on the road, in your care. Thank you.

8/15 Heaven Can Wait

I’ve been home for a little bit getting back into my normal flow and I feel a bit unsettled. I find that exhilarating. Routines have a way of numbing me, and I'd much rather wake up every day feeling like I get to decide what happens, even if what I decide is going to work every day. I hope this feeling lasts for a while.

To help ride that wave, I’m playing a show this month with some of my Storytellers at Heaven Can Wait. It’s our first hometown gig in a while and we’ll be playing as a trio. I’m excited to see how the songs play in that format. Most of all, I’m excited to see you. It’s good to be home.
